Who we're looking for:
Successful candidates will have previous leadership and client management experience in the B2B space and should be comfortable with P&L management, developing retention and growth strategies and coaching of client management professionals. Successful candidates will have a well calibrated understanding of prevailing procurement and T&E management dynamics. Successful candidates will be interested in maintaining senior executive relationships with their clients, developing new ideas to grow the business and working collaboratively with other business leaders. Successful candidates will have demonstrable experience leading deal negotiations and pitch development. The firm has a well-developed partnership marketing and lead generation infrastructure and does not rely on the candidate for lead development other than to participate in industry events and conferences to represent our brand.
The Portfolio Managing Director responsibilities include:
o Managing and coaching a team of experienced Client Managers, including recruiting, training and retaining an effective team of high performing talent.
o Serve as senior decision maker for all matters relating to client portfolio, including directing support functions in Operations, Client Servicing, Technology, and Global Supplier Relations.
o Directing the execution of strategy for sales, retention, servicing and pricing for the portfolio in collaboration with client managers. Also ensuring the strategies are translated into a living document encompassed in a business plan with short and long term opportunities to improve performance for the client and American Express.
o Develop customized, compelling proposals for products and services to bring the business plan to life through daily account management as well as contract renewals to improve value for the client and our position.
o Achieving all key financial and performance metrics as aligned with the Multinational group business scorecard, proactively managing to annual targets for customer penetration, retention, growth and efficiency.
o Managing the portfolio and team P&L to ensure we are realizing the expected profitability, highlighting gaps and anomalies in both revenue and expense and mitigating risks through the appropriate internal groups.
o Driving the strategic and tactical elements of the comprehensive GBT retention process, and ensuring that the portfolio team maintains data quality in our CRM tools.
o Building and maintaining senior procurement and finance relationships with clients through face to face meetings with customers comprising an average of 6-8 client visits per month depending on the relationship status, program maturity and strategic needs of each client.
o In depth research in order to maintain a deep understanding of the Business Travel marketplace, including competitive offerings, suppliers, trends, risks and opportunities.
o Providing updates to the leadership team on client account strategy, including annual execution of an insight-based diagnostic, analysis and action plan against key industry metrics tailored to each individual client's business priorities and objectives.
o 7 years global account/client management, sales, consulting or procurement experience
o Ability to build a high performing, highly motivated team and demonstrated success in managing others to meet performance targets, especially in a virtual environment
o Excellent sales skills and track record, and highly developed negotiation skills with the ability to lead bids and close renewal and expansion agreements with existing clients
o Ability to track economic and industry activity and understands its implications on customer business, including potential new business opportunities with the proven ability to educate customers on industry trends and best practices adopted by peer companies
o Ability to provide expert project leadership for global initiatives and experience coaching others on project management skills that improve the effectiveness of the team
o Excellent presentation skills
o Previous large market, multinational or global client experience required
o MBA strongly preferred
