Summary:
The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences seeks a temporary, part-time (20-30 hours per week) building coordinator at the Lena Point Facility in Juneau.
This position will provide research support, facilities management and lab and field safety support at the Lena Point Facility.
Duties:
15SAFETY OFFICER:
Monitor facility for safety deficiencies, support researchers to correct to keep labs clean and safe.
Track lab safety training requirements for all users.
Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets and Chemical Hygiene Plans for hazardous substances used and stored by projects, manage safety supplies and assist in annual chemical inventory.
Update emergency evacuation plans as necessary and plan contingency drills.
Work with UAF Risk Management to assure proper hazmat inventory, storage, and disposal.
Monitor samples stored in archival space and alert researchers to expiration.
Essential 20SPACE MANAGEMENT:
Manage and monitor permanent, temporary and seasonal space and storage assignments at the Lena Point Facility.
Manage freezer inventory and contingency plans.
Track property and equipment inventory.
Maintain building keys and database.
Essential 30FACILITIES LIAISON:
Monitor facilities and grounds for deficiencies that need repair or correction, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, structural, HVAC and interiors.
Coordinate with UAF Facilities to insure preventative maintenance is completed on schedule and inspect work by contractors.
Remove hazards from grounds, including snow and ice and assist with landscaping and recycling.
ON call to respond to after hours emergencies.
Essential 35RESEARCH SUPPORT:
Support projects connected to building systems, field logistics and serve as the point of contact for field personnel.
Manage and hold contingency drills for vital systems.
Manage boat maintenance, user training and safety records; captain and launch as necessary.
Act as check out for boats and vehicles and related equipment.
ON call to respond to after hours emergencies.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
The position requires:
Knowledge of facilities and operations, including a familiarity with electrical, HVAC, plumbing and construction systems.
Ability to interpret building plans and schematics and apply federal, state and institutional regulations and policies.
Knowledge of safety practices, hazardous material handling, inventory control and space management.
Knowledge of personal computers, basic software and email.
Ability to work on a team and independently with excellent communication, organization, problem solving and customer service skills.
Ability to manage/prioritize multiple projects with varying deadlines.
Ability to lift 50 pounds, bend stretch, work in tight spaces and be exposed to inclement weather.

Several years' experience in SE AK waters operating vessels, boat handling and trailering and expertise in maintenance, repair, operation of outboard motors.
Experience with small engines (lawn mower, snow blower) and power tools.

Required Education or Training:
Two years college coursework in relevant field (e.
g.
natural science, fisheries) and two years experience in relevant field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Driver's License Salary Information:
This is a temporary part-time position.
New hires will be placed on the UA temporary staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
