WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
This position performs a variety of engineering duties involving the design, installation, troubleshooting, and/or modification of a wide range of communications systems including voice, optical and data communications via radio, microwave and cable transmissions for Alaska Public Safety Communication Services (APSCS).
The position provides engineering expertise to State agencies regarding electromagnetic communications requirements; and recommends new, or revise existing communications to achieve greater economy, efficiency and eliminate obsolescence.
OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE:
The position supports many of the state and local 9-1-1 dispatch centers' radio equipment enabling mission critical communications to first responders as they answer calls for help.
Your work will support mutiple teams efforts to ensure reliable emergency communications services through a system comprised of over 150 communication sites enabling emergency and day-to-day services to state, local, Department of Defense and federal agencies as they carry out their missions to the public.
Those sites often include microwave communications, high availability network routers, primary and emergency power, shelters and towers all supporting land mobile radio and other customer equipment and services.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:
The primary work environment is carried out in an office setting either in a cubicle environment or at your home when telework is authorized.
Field work will involve travel to communications sites located in office facilities and telecommunciations sites along the roadways and on remote mountain top sites.

Valid Driver's LicenseRequires frequent travel within the State (normally one trip of up to 3 days length occurring monthly)Requires occasional travel within the State to plan, organize and monitor project work at sites often in remote areas and mountain top sites accessible by ATV or helicopter.

Minimum Qualifications Communications Engineer 1:
Registration as an Electrical Engineer in the State of Alaska; or PE registration as an Electrical Engineer in the State of Alaska is desired, and incumbent is pursuing a PE within a reasonable time frame.
